Types of Wishes

Claire’s supports Make-A-Wish by granting shopping sprees and fulfilling wishes such as “I want to be a princess” or “I want to be a model”. Typically children’s wishes fall into 4 categories:

I wish to be…

a zookeeper, a firefighter, a baker

I wish to meet…

a favorite celebrity or athlete

I wish to have…

a computer, a shopping spree,
a playhouse, a puppy

I wish to go…

to a theme park, Hawaii,

Make-A-Wish makes these life-changing wishes possible to thousands of children around the world.

Charlotte, age 5, wishes to meet a unicorn

Charlotte, 5 hematologic disorder

I wish to meet a unicorn

Once Charlotte arrived in the magical woods, she was asked to sit and closer her eyes. From behind the trees, Bam Bam the unicorn walked out with his fairy. Charlotte opened her eyes and, through her disbelief, pet, rode and fed Bam Bam carrots and apples all morning before being invited for lunch in the Ritz Carlton Members Club. When Charlotte met her unicorn, she was swept far away from hospital visits and medical procedures. She was no longer thinking about her illness; she was a joyful princess in her own fairy tale. Charlotte was experiencing life beyond her illness, and seeing the impossible as possible.

Emma, age 12, have a VIP shopping spree

Emma, 12 leukemia

I wish to have a VIP shopping spree

To escape the challenging treatments required for her illness that left her feeling exhausted, weak and not herself, 12-year-old Emma found joy in soaking in the pages of her favorite fashion magazines. She loved to create her very own unique styles and 'looks' with her favorite accessories and clothes, giving her an identity beyond "patient" and providing an outlet to express her individuality, creativity and joyous personality. In a sense, fashion is something that brings Emma hope and inspiration, even in the most difficult of times.

When presented with making her most heartfelt wish, it was no surprise that Emma wished to go on a VIP shopping extravaganza, where she could visit her favorite stores and add to her treasured fashion collection that brings her so much joy. Most importantly, the experience gave Emma hope and the opportunity to experience a life beyond illness.
