DO YOU USE A NEEDLE OR A PIERCING DEVICE?
Claire's uses a hand-pressured, FDA-registered medical device operated by a trained Piercing Specialist. Benefits of device piercing include:
- A safe, controlled, hygienic experience
- Approachable for guests uncomfortable with needles - especially children
- A quick, standardized experience across locations
- Jewelry designed to support easier changes (e.g. needle piercing flatbacks can be harder to change out on your own)
IS EAR PIERCING AT CLAIRE'S SAFE?
Yes. When performed by a trained Piercing Specialist following proper hygiene and safety procedures, ear piercing is safe. Claire's follows established sanitation protocols, uses sterile, single-use piercing components, and the piercing device itself is an FDA-registered Class 1 medical device. You'll also get detailed aftercare instructions - following that routine is a key part of a safe, successful aftercare experience.
HOW ARE CLAIRE'S PIERCING SPECIALISTS TRAINED?
Every Piercing Specialist completes a comprehensive training and certification program before piercing guests, covering piercing safety and sanitation, consultation techniques, ear anatomy, jewelry selection, and aftercare education, with hands-on practice throughout. Piercing Specialists must demonstrate proficiency through assessments before they're certified, and they continue with ongoing coaching, recertification, and continued education to stay current.
WHAT GLOVES AND HYGIENE STANDARDS DO YOU USE?
Our Piercing Specialists wear medical-grade gloves, use single-use sterile earrings, and utilize professional piercing supplies designed specifically for ear and nose piercing. We are committed to providing a clean, safe, and comfortable piercing experience for every guest.
DOES GETTING YOUR EARS PIERCED HURT?
Everyone experiences piercing a little differently. Earlobe, cartilage, and nostril piercings all use Claire's FDA-registered medical device, and most guests describe it as a quick pinch that lasts only a moment. Some tenderness, warmth, or sensitivity afterward is normal and usually settles within a few days. Our trained Specialists are there to help you feel as comfortable as possible the whole time.
WHAT HAPPENS IF I CHANGE MY MIND WHILE IN THE PIERCING CHAIR?
That's completely okay. We want every guest to feel comfortable and confident before getting pierced. If you change your mind while you're in the chair, just let your Piercing Specialist know. We can pause, answer any questions, or stop the service if you're not ready.
WHAT IF I'M NOT HAPPY WITH MY PIERCING PLACEMENT?
Your comfort and safety are our top priorities, and we want you to love the look of your piercing/s. Please contact your local store to schedule a complimentary consultation with a Claire's Piercing Specialist.
CAN I GET PIERCED IF I'M ON MEDICATION (LIKE BLOOD THINNERS)?
If you are taking-blood thinning medication, please check with your healthcare provider before getting pierced.
CAN I GET PIERCED IF I'M PREGNANT OR BREASTFEEDING?
It's best to check with your doctor first. Many people choose to wait, since a piercing is a small open wound and pregnancy can affect aftercare. Claire's Piercing Specialists can pierce once you've got the go-ahead from your healthcare provider.
